Prerequisites

- Completion of the CFES Fitness Knowledge Course, or an approved equivalent
- A local practicum mentor (see below) . If you haven’t completed the prerequisite, you can enroll in the CFES Fitness Knowledge Home Study Program.
Community Practicum Leadership Mentor
You must find a qualified mentor in your community — an approved, certified instructor with teaching and supervisory experience. Your mentor will guide you through the practicum, proctor your certification exam, and assist with your video skills assessments, which are submitted to your CFES Educator or Skills Assessment Evaluator (SAE) on the course’s scheduled submission dates. The practicum includes supervised water fitness class labs and assignments, completed during and after your instructor course. All completion procedures and documentation are provided in the course resources.
Once you have a mentor, you’ll review the course manual and assignments together, complete practicum labs, and submit documentation as scheduled.
