Practical Experience and Mentorship
A unique aspect of the CFES program is its focus on mentorship. Students must find a mentor in their community to take them through the practicum components of the CFES Group Fitness Instructor Course, proctor their certification exam and assist in the student’s video skills assessments to be submitted to their CFES Educator or Skills Assessment Evaluator (SAE).
The mentor should be an approved certified Group Fitness Instructor with teaching and supervisory experience themselves to guide the student through the practicum.
The practicum components of the course are a series of group fitness class assignments the student does under mentor supervision during and after their instructor course. Certification completion procedures and documentation are in the CFES Group Fitness Instructor Course program online courseware.
Once the student’s leadership mentor is confirmed the student would bring the mentor the course manual and program work booklet (or e-version resources) for both to review and complete together as the course conductor schedules various assignments. The leadership mentor and the student would work through the practicum labs and complete the documentation. The practicum documents are submitted to the course conductor on the courses’ scheduled submission dates.

Upon successful completion of the course, practicum, and certification exam, you’ll be fully certified to lead group fitness classes in a variety of settings.
